Designed by Satoshi Itasaka, also known as h220430, 'The Birth' is a unique lighting fixture that seeks to create a sense of intimacy with one of the fundamental mysteries of life. It draws inspiration from the concept that at the moment of fertilization, eggs emit light. By capturing this ethereal phenomenon, Itasaka hopes to encourage observers to re-think the significance of life itself.

'The Birth' chandelier stands out from other lighting designs due to its conceptual inspiration and the emotions it evokes. It serves as a reminder of the miracle of life and prompts contemplation on the profound nature of existence.

With a diameter of 750mm, 'The Birth' features 42 pieces of 10W bulbs arranged in a carefully crafted aluminum plate frame. The design is a testament to Itasaka's preference for simplicity and standard production techniques and materials. It does not rely on any special technologies, making it accessible to a wider audience.

The chandelier's interaction with viewers is captivating. All the light bulbs are programmed to slowly blink, shining brightly only for a very brief moment. This cycle mimics the wavelength change in the ovum during fertilization and resembles the rhythm of a beating heart. When encountering 'The Birth', observers are compelled to pause and reflect on the miracle of life, prompting a deeper appreciation for their own existence.

The project began in May 2015 and was completed in October 2015. 'The Birth' was exhibited at the ANYTOKYO exhibition in October 2016, where it garnered attention for its unique concept and design.

Recognizing its exceptional qualities, 'The Birth' was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2016.
